Some questions are more important than others....

Yes, I know there is a general election tomorrow, and all parties are promising to heal the patient after a suitable dose of medication and period of convalescence, but:

Will Cardinal Pell become the next Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops?
If he does, how will that affect the Catholic Church in England and Wales?

  1. Appropriate picture! Essentially, an appointment such as this would further the positive aspects of Benedict's papacy. It's going to be less acceptable to ignore Benedict. For example,Cardinal Pell bravely supported Pope Benedict's stance that throwing condoms at people isn't the solution to AIDS, the ramifications of this for 'Catholic' charities that don't spell out their support for condoms could be dubious.
But the aspect that is unsettling is that so many Catholics fear there will be more division and unrest caused by his appointment among the hierarchy.
